Introducing Graham…

Graham joined the company as a Finance Assistant. We asked him to tell us a bit about himself in this short interview.

Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Graham and I have just started with Lochlie as a Finance Assistant. I’m a recent graduate from the University of Strathclyde Business School, achieving a 2:1 (BA) Hons degree in Accounting and Finance. My favourite area of study at university was financial accounting and taxation, as it gives you a full understanding of a business and its operations. In my spare time I enjoy keeping fit – going to the gym / (attempting to) run!

What attracted you to your current role at Lochlie

Lochlie has offered me a fantastic opportunity to work in a role that gives an understanding of all aspects of the company. I have the chance to work and learn from talented staff with years of experience in the construction industry. The company prides itself on continuous development and supports individuals which is one of the main attractions for me in this role going forward.

What are you enjoying most about working at Lochlie so far?

The opportunity to learn every day. No two days are the same and I’m gaining a lot of valuable knowledge of the construction industry and procedures. The staff are very welcoming and I’m really enjoying meeting all the new people.

As a recent graduate, how are you finding making the change from academic environment to work environment?

Working in practice is a bit of a jump from my studies at university! After my first few months, I’m feeling settled in the role and looking forward to the opportunities ahead. Although my time in an academic environment has given me a good base of knowledge, the work environment at Lochlie has given me the opportunity to contribute ideas on how to increase the efficiency of processes in the business. I’ve learned a lot from my time here so far and look forward to growing and improving both personally and professionally.

Tell us something funny/unusual about yourself…

I’ve been learning Spanish since the first lockdown from my brother who’s a certified fluent speaker and tutor. I used it as a way to continue to improve myself through lockdown but I enjoy it so much that I’m still learning and look forward to using it in practice in the future!
