Accolades, Ambition, and Architectural Heritage: August at LCG
Welcome to our August newsletter! As summer winds down, momentum across the business has only accelerated. This month, we are celebrating everything from prestigious award nominations and the successful handover of a historic West End landmark to welcoming new site leadership and investing in the next generation of industry talent. Read on for everything we got up to!
Project Handover: Kelvinbridge Parish Church
Working within a late-1800s West End landmark requires precise, expert craftsmanship to preserve its rich architectural heritage while adapting it for modern use. Our Core Division’s in-house joiners, plumbers, and decorators successfully transformed the historic space into a dynamic learning environment designed to serve generations of students to come.
- Main Hall Transformation: We removed the original stage to construct a brand new upper mezzanine, featuring full staircase access and dedicated washroom facilities tailored specifically for young learners.
- Ground Floor Modernisation: The former residential space has been completely revitalised with new internal doors and modern amenities, including accessible toilets, baby change stations, and showers.
Industry Recognition & Leadership
August brought fantastic news on the awards front, reflecting the hard work and dedication of the entire Lochlie team.
- Family Business of the Year: We have been shortlisted for this category at the Glasgow Business Awards 2026, held in partnership with the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and Virgin Money.
- Inspiring City Awards 2026: Our Managing Director, Douglas Aitken, has been shortlisted for “Outstanding Contribution by a Business Leader.” This is a brilliant, well-deserved recognition of his ongoing commitment to LCG and the wider Glasgow business community.
Empowering the Next Generation
With SQA exam results arriving this month, we reminded school leavers that a sheet of paper does not define your worth or cap your potential. Our industry thrives on modern apprenticeships and workplace traineeships. As our own apprentice, Brady Craig, notes: “You can learn a lot from an apprenticeship, not just your trade. A lot of skills you develop can help you in all walks of life.”
We are also putting innovation directly into the hands of youth through our donation to the Lowland Reserve Forces & Cadets’ Association. Following a recent competition, Staff Sergeant Bianca Brown’s proposal for an Augmented Reality (AR) Sandbox was selected as the winner. This incredible tool blends real sand with live digital projections to teach contour lines, map reading, and terrain analysis. Trials kick off soon in Kilmarnock, and Douglas Aitken is honoured to present SSgt Brown with her award at the Silver ERS Awards this September.
Team Expansion, Safety & Socials
We welcomed Stewart Richmond as our new Senior Site Manager. With over 28 years of experience, Stewart started his career as a joiner before progressing into site leadership across residential and commercial builds. Drawn to LCG’s strong reputation and varied projects, he brings a deeply practical, problem solving mindset to our sites.
Our management team recently renewed their Emergency First Aid at Work training with Skills Training Group, ensuring our workforce, clients, and partners have access to confident, trained medical support across all our projects.
With our teams usually spread across various sites, we got everyone together for a brilliant (if slightly competitive) summer staff night out at Flight Club Glasgow. We also celebrated the 40th birthday of our M&E Director, Dave Aitken!
