Changing the Way: Lochlie Construction Group’s Journey to Carbon-Neutral
In 2021, we set out on a journey to purchase and develop new premises, having worked out of serviced offices since our establishment in 2014. We purchased a nearby empty industrial unit in Hillington, and completed a comprehensive refurbishment with sustainability and collaboration at the heart of the design.
We are so proud of the finished building, Scotland’s first carbon-neutral, industrial office refurbishment project, and the commitment it signifies towards a greener future for us, as well as fellow businesses in the construction industry and beyond.
A Commitment to Sustainability
From the outset, we consulted our team on what was most important to them in their new workplace; two things came through loud and clear from all levels:
- Sustainability
- Collaboration
Our Design Team partners at Framed Estates and Balfour Engineering worked hard to create a space that truly exemplifies our commitment to these two core values for our business.
Purposeful Design
In crafting our carbon-neutral office, every design element was carefully curated with sustainability in mind.
Solar PV System: Our 38kW solar PV system has been installed by our in-house Electrical & Renewables team, contributing to a reduction in our carbon footprint, energy bills, and our reliance on grid electricity.
Solar Invertor: This is our solar inverter, a crucial component of any solar PV system. It converts the DC current generated by our solar panels into AC current, making it compatible with the electrical appliances in our office and suitable for exporting to the national grid. Additionally, we have integrated the Solis Cloud monitoring system with our inverter, enabling us to monitor our solar output in
Tesla Powerwall: This is our Tesla Powerwall system at Lochlie Construction Group HQ in Hillington, with a storage capacity of up to 57 kWh. Powerwall’s advanced technology can be customised to meet your needs.
It allows you to store excess energy from solar panels or the grid during off-peak times, which can be used during peak hours or power outages. This enhances energy independence and can reduce electricity bills.
We are proud to be among the few Tesla-certified Powerwall installers in Scotland.
Setting the Standard
Our carbon-neutral office serves as more than a testament to our dedication to sustainability; it serves as a blueprint for the future of the construction industry. Through events like our Open House, where we showcase the feasibility and benefits of carbon neutrality, we aim to inspire collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to environmental responsibility. Together, we can pave the way towards a greener, more sustainable Scotland.
Looking Forward
As we celebrate the completion of our carbon-neutral office, we acknowledge that our journey towards sustainability is ongoing. While challenges and opportunities will inevitably arise, our resolve to lead by example remains steadfast. We are committed to continuing our efforts to inspire others and drive positive change in the construction industry and beyond.
