Refurbishment of former police station building to provide community hub

The project:

Background:

Active Communities are a charity organisation based in Johnstone promoting healthy and active lifestyles throughout Renfrewshire. Their acquisition of the former police station building led to an ambitious project to create a vibrant and accessible hub for the whole community. We were appointed as principal contractor following a competitive tender process.

What we did:

The project was completed in 2 phases with the external rendering, interior structural works and roof works in the first phase, and the internal refurbishment and fit out in the second phase. Also included in the second phase was the refurbishment of the on site garages to create “Start Up Street”, a home for local entrepreneurs. One of our cold-rolled steel buildings completes the site, providing recreation space for local youth groups. The hub now provides a daily programme of activities and support services for the local community and is a shining example of what can be achieved by charity and community organisations.
